Japan Day 2020 will be held on the 9th February as planned
There have been growing concerns in the general public over the risk of a sustained outbreak of coronavirus, in particular, in the events that attract a large crowd, such as Japan Day.
As organiser, we are aware that some community events have been cancelled due to the fear of spread of the virus.
The Japanese Society of Auckland has fully assessed the situation, referring to Auckland Council’s position towards community events, and wish to announce that the 19th Japan Day will be held as scheduled on Sunday, 9 February, at ASB Showgrounds.
We will continue to closely monitor the situation and follow the advice and recommendations of Ministry of Health as well as Auckland Council. However, should the risks increase and the authorities advise to limit events or gathering, we will reassess the situation and may reverse the current decision.
It is very important for everybody to get updated regarding the development of coronavirus situation by following the health advice available on the websites of Ministry of Health and Auckland Regional Health Services. We request all the participants and visitors to take extra precautions for themselves and their families at Japan Day and we will take necessary measures to encourage handwashing, etc at the event site.
We sincerely hope that the epidemic of Coronavirus will be controlled and those who are affected by will recover and get back to their normal life soon.
